About Ozark Center

Ozark Center is the behavioral health division of Freeman Health System, serving southwest Missouri from a network of sites that includes a clinic in Lamar. They care for adults, children, and families dealing with mental illness, addiction, trauma, or abuse, with services ranging from outpatient counseling and psychiatric medication management to acute inpatient care, 24-hour crisis support, and a behavioral health urgent care for people 16 and older. Their addiction services run through the New Directions program, which offers substance use assessment, outpatient treatment, case management, residential treatment, and modified medical detox with 24-hour nursing observation, with the detox and residential units based in Joplin.

For opioid use disorder, New Directions prescribers offer buprenorphine (Suboxone or Subutex), which patients can fill at a local pharmacy, alongside counseling, peer groups, and help finding sober housing and work. Because addiction affects the whole household, their family program includes therapy, education, support groups, and codependency counseling. People involved with the legal system can access Drug Court services, SATOP, and STOPP, a 10-week probation and parole program of individual therapy and group work, along with anger management classes and Alternatives to Violence, a 24-week course for men with violence-related charges. Broader counseling options include individual, couples, group, and family therapy, psychological evaluations, and smoking cessation support.
