Athens Recovery is an outpatient addiction treatment center in Athens, Georgia, and serves as the outpatient arm of Serenity Grove. They work with adults from Athens and across Northeast Georgia who are recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, and they treat co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD in the same program rather than one after the other. Their levels of care include outpatient detox with daily check-ins, a partial hospitalization program that meets five days a week, intensive outpatient treatment, and standard outpatient care. Clients who need round-the-clock medical detox or residential treatment can go to Serenity Grove’s Newton Bridge Road campus and then step down into Athens Recovery’s programs.

The intensive outpatient program runs three hours a day, three to five days a week, with a morning track from 9:00 AM to noon and an evening track from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, so clients can keep up with work, school, or caregiving. Group counseling is the backbone of treatment, supported by individual therapy, addiction education, family therapy, and regular check-ins with a case manager. For clients managing anxiety alongside substance use, clinicians draw on cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and trauma-focused work. Their counselors can also advocate for clients with employers, family members, or the courts, which may help someone facing legal or workplace consequences of their substance use.
