About Outer Cape Health Services
Outer Cape Health Services is a nonprofit community health center in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, serving the ten outermost towns of Cape Cod with primary care, specialty medicine, and dedicated recovery services for people living with substance use disorders. Their recovery team takes a harm reduction approach that respects multiple pathways to recovery and treats every patient with dignity, combining medical care with evidence-based counseling. They help people struggling with opioid and alcohol dependence through office-based medication treatment, a structured intensive outpatient program, peer recovery coaching, and ongoing support groups. Founded in 1987, they care for more than 20,000 patients a year, and no one is turned away because they can’t pay.
Their Office-Based Addiction Treatment program uses medications such as Suboxone and Vivitrol to ease cravings and withdrawal, paired with group counseling to build lasting recovery. The Structured Outpatient Addiction Program typically runs one to two months, with group sessions three mornings a week, weekly individual counseling, case management, and visits from community partners who cover employment, benefits, housing, education, and legal advocacy. Recovery coaches, many of whom have lived experience with addiction, meet one-on-one with participants to set goals and strengthen their recovery capital, while weekly recovery and skills groups meet at the Wellfleet Health Center. People can refer themselves or be referred by a primary care provider, counselor, treatment facility, probation or parole officer, or community health organization.
