About Ohio State East Hospital
Ohio State East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, is part of the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, an academic health system whose addiction medicine program treats substance use disorder across several levels of care. They approach addiction as a complex brain condition rather than a personal failing, and they build an individualized plan for each patient. Their services span medically managed withdrawal, inpatient and residential treatment, and outpatient care for people struggling with alcohol, marijuana, prescription pain pills or stimulants, cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, methamphetamine, inhalants, and hallucinogens.
Care is delivered by a team of psychiatrists, physicians, nurse practitioners, and counselors who combine medications for substance use disorder with cognitive behavioral therapy and other evidence-based approaches. The system’s main program operates out of Talbot Hall, which has 25 withdrawal management beds and a recently added 15-bed residential unit, along with satellite locations and telehealth options. Most programs currently have no waitlist, which can make a real difference when someone is ready to start treatment. They also run STEPP (Substance Abuse, Treatment, Education and Prevention Program), a specialized track for pregnant people working through addiction.
