About Odyssey Wards Island SRR 1
Odyssey Wards Island SRR 1 is a residential addiction treatment program on Wards Island in New York City, operated by Odyssey House, a long-standing nonprofit serving New Yorkers with substance use and mental health disorders. Their care follows a structured continuum that begins with admission and stabilization in a residential program, continues through outpatient treatment, and leads into an ongoing peer support community, with permanent, transitional, and supportive housing also available across the organization. They accept Medicare and Medicaid and work through other payment assistance options so that cost doesn’t keep anyone from getting help.
Treatment pairs individual counseling and group therapy with mental health case management and art and recreation services, while also addressing physical health, family relationships, education, and job readiness. For opioid use disorder, their on-site medical clinic may prescribe buprenorphine or naltrexone in oral (Revia) or injectable (Vivitrol) form, though naltrexone requires completing detox first. People with alcohol use disorder may be offered naltrexone, acamprosate (Campral), or disulfiram (Antabuse) as part of an integrated plan. Odyssey House also runs tracks for young adults, seniors, and women with children, and they encourage clients to take an active role in their recovery, valuing steady progress over perfection as people move from residential care into outpatient support.
