Odyssey House of Utah is a nonprofit substance use and mental health treatment provider in Salt Lake City that has been serving adults since 1971. They take a whole-person approach, pairing addiction treatment with care for co-occurring mental health conditions, physical health, employment, housing, and damaged relationships. Levels of care include adult residential treatment, a residential program for parents and their children, intensive outpatient (9 to 16 hours a week), general outpatient (2 to 5 hours a week), and sober housing. Cost is often not a barrier: care is free for low-income Salt Lake residents, and they accept in-network commercial insurance, Medicaid, government contracts, and low cash rates.

In residential care, licensed therapists address depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and trauma, while clients build daily life skills, take on peer leadership roles, join sober recreation, and can earn a GED and receive vocational services through a partnership with the Salt Lake City School District. The Parents with Children program lets single mothers, single fathers, and pregnant women live in treatment with children from newborn to age 11, who attend licensed on-site daycare. Parents receive individual and family therapy, parenting education, and psychiatric and medical support through the affiliated Martindale Clinic, and families can move into dedicated family sober housing afterward. Stays run at least 30 days and typically last 3 to 6 months. Outpatient clients can choose evening sessions, individual, couples, or family therapy, PRIME for Life DUI classes, and court-ready drug and alcohol assessments, and loved ones can attend a family support group even if their family member isn’t in Odyssey’s care.
