About Odyssey House Inc

Odyssey House is a long-running New York City nonprofit that treats substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders for people across all five boroughs. Their continuum of care begins with admission and stabilization in a residential program, continues through outpatient treatment, and leads into an ongoing peer support community. They also offer street outreach and permanent, transitional, and supportive housing. Their approach looks beyond sobriety alone, combining physical and mental health care, family involvement, education, and vocational support, and they work with Medicare, Medicaid, and other payment assistance so cost doesn’t keep anyone out of treatment.

Their programs are tailored to adults, young adults, seniors, and women with children, and they include a 60-bed Wards Island residence for adult men with opioid use disorder. Care combines individual counseling, group therapy, mental health case management, and art and recreation services, with primary and specialty medical care available on-site. Their medical clinic provides medication for addiction treatment. For opioid use disorder, this includes buprenorphine and oral or injectable naltrexone, which requires completing detox first, while alcohol use disorder may be treated with naltrexone, acamprosate, or disulfiram. The Kate Rothko Center for Recovery pairs this medication-based care with an arts program, giving clients a creative outlet alongside their clinical treatment.
