About Odyssey Family Counseling Center

Odyssey Family Counseling Center is a community-based nonprofit in Atlanta, Georgia, that has offered outpatient mental health and substance use treatment to children, teens, adults, and families since 1973. Their addiction services are abstinence-based and treat addiction as a chronic, progressive, primary illness. They are geared mainly toward people in the early stages of substance use, including adults whose drinking or drug use has led to legal trouble. They accept Medicaid and several major insurance plans, offer income-based discounts and a payment plan, and serve clients regardless of ability to pay.

For teens ages 12 to 17, Odyssey To Recovery is a 6- to 10-week program that teaches young people who have started experimenting with substances about drug use and addiction. Through a partnership with the Atlanta Harm Reduction Coalition, the Black Health Empowerment Initiative provides free, confidential substance use education and treatment for African Americans who identify as LGBTQ or engage in same-sex practices, combining individual counseling and support groups with connections to HIV and hepatitis testing and PrEP. Because many people also struggle with depression, anxiety, trauma, or grief, clients can receive individual, family, group, and couples therapy, psychiatric medication management, and anger management. Telehealth sessions are available, and children can get school-based counseling.
