About Nova Counseling Services Inc

Nova Counseling Services is a nonprofit residential addiction treatment program in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, serving men 18 and older who are struggling with alcohol or drug use. Their care is grounded in the 12-step principles of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. Their continuum includes a 30-day residential program, a 90-day transitional living program called Terra, and ongoing aftercare with support for families. Because they have no medical or psychiatric staff on site, they accept men whose primary diagnosis is substance use, and anyone who needs detox must complete it elsewhere first, though staff can help arrange it.

Residents live together as a therapeutic community, and the setting is modest and focused on recovery rather than comfort. A typical day includes morning meditation, shared chores, community meetings, small-group and individual counseling, lectures, first-step groups, family conferences, and evening AA or NA meetings with recovery speakers. Men can continue medication-assisted treatment, antidepressants, and other appropriate mental health medications, while pain pills and other drugs with misuse potential are not permitted. Admissions are often quick, and the program accepts Medicaid/BadgerCare Plus, Medicare, and most major insurance plans, with affordable rates and single-story living quarters.
