About Northland Counseling Recovery Program
Northland Counseling Recovery Program is the substance use treatment arm of Northland Counseling Center, a nonprofit community mental health center licensed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services, with an office in International Falls. Founded in 1959, they serve communities across Aitkin, Itasca, Koochiching, and St. Louis Counties and treat addiction alongside mental health concerns. Through their Northland Recovery Center, they offer a continuum of care that includes a six-bed detox unit for men and women, high-intensity and medium/low-intensity residential treatment for men, and outpatient treatment for both adults and adolescents.
Because many people struggle with mental health and substance use at the same time, co-occurring conditions are addressed by staff licensed therapists, a psychiatrist, and certified nurse practitioners. Women can attend a separate 14-bed residential program with flexible, individually tailored services designed to help them stay connected to their children, family, and community supports. Outpatient groups meet in the morning, during the day, and in the evening to fit around work and family schedules, and a DWI class is also available. Beyond addiction treatment, they offer individual, family, couples, and group therapy, medication management, case management, and peer support, with many services available in person or by telehealth.
