About NorthKey Community Care

NorthKey Community Care in Carrollton, Kentucky, is part of a community mental health center that has served the eight-county northern Kentucky region since 1966, offering substance use, mental health, and developmental disability services. They treat alcohol and drug use, opioid use disorder, and gambling problems. Because substance use and mental health conditions so often occur together, they address both. Care is outpatient-based and includes individual and family therapy, an intensive outpatient program for adults, medication-assisted treatment for opioid addiction, and round-the-clock crisis stabilization. They accept Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance, offer a sliding fee scale based on income and family size, and turn no one away for inability to pay.

The adult IOP blends group and individual therapy with education on addiction as a disease, the stages of recovery, relapse prevention, coping skills, codependency, and healthy relationships, along with anger management and building sober leisure habits. Psychiatric staff provide evaluations and ongoing medication management, while certified peer support specialists with lived recovery experience help clients stay engaged and avoid relapse. Case managers help build individualized recovery plans and connect people to housing, employment, and other community resources. Pregnant and postpartum women can turn to the KY-Moms MATR program for case management, prenatal education, and help stopping alcohol, drug, or tobacco use, and some services are available by telehealth.
