About Northeastern Counseling Center

Northeastern Counseling Center is the public behavioral health provider for Duchesne, Uintah, and Daggett counties in northeastern Utah, with an appointment-based office in Duchesne alongside main clinics in Roosevelt and Vernal. Formed in 1997 through an agreement among the three county boards, and building on mental health and substance use work in the Uintah Basin dating back to the mid-1980s, they treat addiction and mental health concerns together in an outpatient setting. Their philosophy centers on the relationship between client and therapist and on care that disrupts work and family life as little as possible, with an aim of building self-esteem, emotional awareness, and healthier relationships rather than simply easing symptoms. They accept most insurance, offer a sliding fee scale based on income and family size, and turn no one away for inability to pay.

Care begins with a thorough intake assessment that shapes an individualized recovery plan, which may combine one-on-one counseling, substance use and mental health therapy groups, and connections to community support groups. Nurse practitioners and physicians can prescribe and manage medications for addiction, depression, anxiety, and other conditions, and psychiatric referrals are available when deeper evaluation is needed. Crisis services run around the clock, and they also work with young children, coaching parents on how to support their child’s progress. For people facing court requirements, they hold monthly Prime For Life courses, including an 8-hour PRI class, a 16-hour DUI class, and a teen PRI option, along with prevention training such as Mental Health First Aid and QPR suicide prevention.
