About NMSAS Recovery Center
NMSAS Recovery Center is a nonprofit outpatient recovery center in Gaylord, Michigan, and has served individuals and families since 2014 as a federally certified, nationally accredited opioid treatment program. They are licensed by the State of Michigan to treat substance use disorders, and their approach centers on dignity, personal choice, and the belief that there are many valid pathways to recovery. Care is built around each person’s strengths and goals and is delivered without judgment, with attention to the stigma and isolation that often come with addiction. Services include outpatient counseling and medication-assisted recovery, with methadone dosing on weekday mornings and telehealth counseling available on Saturdays.
For medication support, they offer methadone, buprenorphine (including Suboxone and Zubsolv), and naltrexone (Vivitrol), always paired with counseling and ongoing case management rather than offered on their own. Master’s-level counselors lead individual, family, and group sessions that address mental health, trauma, and substance use together, and care coordinators help clients work through practical obstacles like transportation, housing, employment, and medical needs. Pregnant women can receive specialized medication-assisted care coordinated with obstetricians and hospitals through pregnancy and after delivery, and the center also performs court-ordered substance use disorder assessments. Clients can be matched at no cost with volunteer peer recovery coaches who have their own lived experience and 40 hours of training, and free Narcan is available from a self-serve box in the parking lot.
