About Newport Academy
Newport Academy in Anaheim, California, is part of a national network of behavioral health programs serving children, teens, and young adults, with the core focus on ages 7 to 18. They treat primary mental health conditions alongside substance use, including depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, OCD, bipolar and other mood disorders, eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and co-occurring disorders. Care is offered at several levels: 24/7 live-in residential treatment, a full-day Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and telehealth. Aftercare planning and alumni support help teens move from one level to the next while living at home.
Each young person receives an individualized plan from a team that includes psychiatrists, therapists, nurses, and registered dietitians. Clinical work draws on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Attachment-Based Family Therapy, EMDR, Exposure and Response Prevention, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and psychiatric medication management. Teens keep up with school through an accredited academic curriculum and take part in art, music, and adventure therapy, while families stay involved through family therapy and regular updates. Residential housing is separated by gender, the staff has experience supporting LGBTQ+ teens, and the organization holds Joint Commission accreditation and tracks patient outcomes with research verified by Vanderbilt University.
