About New River Valley Community Services
New River Valley Community Services (NRVCS) is a community behavioral health agency that has served Blacksburg and the surrounding New River Valley since 1969. They work with both children and adults living with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, or developmental disabilities. Their stated principles center on person-centered, culturally competent care that supports self-determination and recovery. For addiction, they offer a range of services that includes a partial hospitalization program.
Their substance use programs include Recovery Dojo, the partial hospitalization option, along with New Life Recovery, a Recovery Court program, and the Bridge Program, which works alongside non-emergency jail services. They also run Strategic Assertive Family Engagement (SAFE) teams, an approach that brings families into the process of connecting a loved one with care. They bill insurance directly, offer payment arrangements, and do not turn anyone away for inability to pay. Staff help clients apply for Medicaid, disability benefits, and other assistance, and eligible clients with disabilities or special needs can use their Community Transit service for rides to medical appointments in Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, and Pulaski counties and the City of Radford.
