About Native American Connections Inc

Native American Connections is a Phoenix nonprofit that has offered culturally grounded addiction treatment since 1972, when they began with a single recovery program for Native American men. Their substance use services, licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services since 1978, help adults, single parents, and families with young children address alcohol and drug addiction along with co-occurring mental health conditions. Care options include residential treatment, an 8-week outpatient program, and an Intensive Outpatient Program, with general health services available through the same organization. Although more than half of their behavioral health services go to Native American clients, their programs are open to everyone.

What sets their approach apart is the way traditional Native American healing ceremonies are woven together with research-based clinical practices, treating culture and spirituality as central to restoring mind, body, and spirit. Participants in the Intensive Outpatient Program can live in recovery housing, and public AA meetings help people stay connected to a recovery community after formal treatment. Walk-in assessments are offered on weekdays for both residential and outpatient care, so getting started doesn’t require a long wait for an appointment. They accept AHCCCS and several Medicaid health plans, including the American Indian Health Plan, as well as tribal funding, and federal block grant dollars can help uninsured or underinsured Maricopa County residents cover the cost of treatment.
