Montefiore Medical Center, now operating as Montefiore Einstein, is an academic health system in the Bronx, New York, whose Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences provides both mental health and addiction care. Their addiction services follow a harm reduction model that pairs medications such as methadone and buprenorphine (Suboxone) with counseling and psychiatric support. They treat adults and adolescents for alcohol, cocaine, cannabis, benzodiazepine, heroin, fentanyl, and other opioid use, along with co-occurring depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Care runs through opioid treatment programs and five adult outpatient substance use programs across the Bronx, backed by intensive outpatient psychiatry, inpatient psychiatric units, and emergency psychiatric services.

Teams of medical providers, mental health clinicians, and peer advocates use approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, trauma-informed therapy, and creative arts therapy, with advanced options like EMDR, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and esketamine for treatment-resistant depression. Project Rising serves young people ages 14 to 24, and the substance use programs also help adults focused on relapse prevention and family members trying to get a loved one into treatment. The intensive outpatient program requires at least seven hours of treatment a week and offers a virtual adult track and an after-school adolescent track for ages 12 to 17 with a caregiver group, plus buprenorphine maintenance, naloxone kits, bilingual services, and on-site primary care. Through University Behavioral Associates, patients can also get case management, help accessing social services and benefits, and employment support, with many services available by telehealth.
