About Montefiore Medical Center
Montefiore Medical Center, part of the Montefiore Einstein health system in the Bronx, New York, offers outpatient addiction treatment through their Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, which has worked with people in recovery for about 40 years. They take a harm reduction approach that pairs medications such as methadone and buprenorphine (Suboxone) with counseling and medical support. They treat adults and young people struggling with alcohol, cocaine, cannabis, benzodiazepines, heroin, fentanyl, and other opioids, along with co-occurring depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Care includes opioid treatment programs and both intensive and non-intensive outpatient services, delivered in person or by telehealth.
Their network includes five outpatient programs: New Directions Recovery Center, Next Steps North, Next Steps South, Wakefield Recovery Center, and Project Rising, which serves adolescents and young adults ages 14 to 24. Across these sites, patients can get individual and group counseling, medication for addiction treatment including buprenorphine, naltrexone, and Vivitrol, psychiatric care, primary medical care, toxicology testing, and vocational and educational support, with a team that includes peer advocates. Several locations offer Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) for relatives who want help getting a loved one into treatment, and every program provides free Narcan, fentanyl test strips, and overdose prevention education. People who are already in recovery and want to avoid relapse can also enroll, and multilingual or interpreter services may be available.
