About Monarch

Monarch, also known as Monarch Healthcare, is a statewide North Carolina provider of mental health, substance use, and human services, listed here in Cary. Since 1958, they have offered trauma-informed care for people living with mental illness, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and traumatic brain injuries. Their addiction services address alcohol, tobacco, opioids, and other substances, mainly through outpatient therapy available in person at their clinics or by telehealth. New patients can get a same-day assessment by walking in or connecting virtually, and their crisis services include behavioral health urgent care and facility-based crisis care at their Stephen M. Morris Behavioral Health Center in Concord.

Care starts with a comprehensive assessment by a licensed clinician, who works with each person to build an individualized treatment plan. From there, people may receive individual therapy, group therapy, and medication management to ease symptoms. Beyond the clinic, they offer peer support from people with lived experience, family peer support for caregivers, Community Support Team and Assertive Community Treatment services, and employment help through Individual Placement and Support. They also run mobile clinics serving six counties in northeastern North Carolina, Tailored Care Management for eligible Medicaid members, and a free “Understanding Addiction” curriculum designed for people with both developmental disabilities and substance use disorders.
