About Mariposa Women and Family Center

Mariposa Women and Family Center is a nonprofit counseling organization in Orange, California, that has offered low-cost mental health and substance use services to women, men, and families across Orange County since 1977. Many of their team members are trauma survivors, people in recovery, or former mental health clients themselves, and that lived experience shapes how they work with people facing addiction, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, and family conflict. Their substance use services focus on opioid and alcohol use, among other substances, and range from outpatient counseling to aftercare and extended care.

Their gender-specific outpatient groups set them apart from many local programs, and each track blends education about the effects of drugs and alcohol, relapse prevention support groups, and one-on-one counseling with pre-licensed therapists. Clients can also use couples, family, group, and virtual counseling, along with clinician-led equine therapy and school-based support for students. Free on-site child care during sessions makes it easier for parents to attend, and drug testing is available for $20 in Orange and San Juan Capistrano, with same-day results. For people dealing with homelessness or reentry after incarceration, their Enhanced Care Management and Treatment program provides case management and connections to housing help, job training, and substance use treatment.
