About MAAC Project
MAAC, the Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee on Anti-Poverty of San Diego County, is a San Diego nonprofit that has served local families since 1965 and runs two residential recovery programs for people working to overcome alcohol or drug addiction. Casa de Milagros is their recovery home for women, and Nosotros serves men. Both programs weave gender-specific and multicultural perspectives into treatment, reflecting the organization’s roots in the Mexican American community of the South Bay. Residents commit to a stay of at least three months, giving them time to build life skills and work through the personal and practical obstacles that can stand in the way of lasting sobriety.
Clinical care includes individual counseling and clinical groups, supported by evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and EMDR. Groups address relapse prevention, grief and loss, trauma and resilience, self-esteem, and meditation and mindfulness. Educational workshops cover anger management and conflict resolution, family wellness and parenting, nutrition, communication, alcohol and drug education, and independent living skills. Because MAAC also offers housing, workforce, financial, and family support programs, residents are part of an organization that focuses on long-term stability as well as recovery.
