About Los Alamos Family Council Inc
Los Alamos Family Council is a nonprofit community mental health organization in Los Alamos, New Mexico, that has offered counseling to local residents since 1963. Their work centers on supporting emotional and social well-being through education, prevention, and counseling, and they partner with agencies across the region to connect people with resources. At their Counseling Center, clients of all ages can receive individual, couples, family, and group therapy, including groups that focus on substance use. They also run free after-school and summer Youth Activity Centers in Los Alamos and White Rock for students in grades 3 through 8.
Their therapists take a trauma-informed, person-centered approach and keep each client’s welfare at the forefront of care. Beyond ongoing therapy, they provide mental health assessments for people who need them for court or employment, and they run art therapy groups for those who prefer a more creative outlet. Anyone working through addictive thoughts, behaviors, or substance use can attend their free weekly SMART Recovery meetings on Tuesday evenings. They also work with Los Alamos Public Schools and Los Alamos County Social Services to support community programs such as SMART Recovery and Teen Court.
