About Life Center of Connecticut Inc

The Life Center of Connecticut, also known as Youth Challenge of Connecticut, is a faith-based residential recovery program in Hartford for adults 18 and older struggling with alcohol and drug use. They have been operating since 1970 and are state-licensed to treat substance use disorders. Their approach blends acceptance with discipline and structure, aiming to rebuild self-respect, confidence, and a sense of purpose. For men, care begins with a first-phase residential stay and continues into a second-phase transitional program where residents return to work or school while staying in counseling.

Daily life follows a set schedule of individual and group counseling, classes, recreation, and supervised work within the house, alongside biblical counseling, prayer, and non-denominational spiritual sharing. Residents receive housing and meals, plus help with transportation and advocacy for employment, legal, medical, and mental health appointments. Family members can get support in understanding and coping with their loved one’s addiction, and staff also reach people through prisons, Hartford’s streets, and local schools. Many residents walk in on their own, while others are referred by courts, probation, parole, or state addiction services, and the main requirements are a genuine desire for change and a commitment to the structured program.
