About Liberation Programs Inc
Liberation Programs is a Stamford, Connecticut–based behavioral health organization that has treated substance use disorders across lower Fairfield County since 1971, with sites in Stamford, Norwalk, Bridgeport, Greenwich, and Westport. They treat addiction to alcohol, opiates, stimulants, depressants, and other substances alongside co-occurring mental health conditions, with a focus on helping people understand what drives their substance use and build the self-sufficiency to stay in recovery. Care includes residential treatment of up to 90 days at Liberation House, their men’s program in Stamford, and at THRIVE, a Level 3.5 women’s program in Norwalk, plus outpatient services, intensive outpatient treatment, and medication-assisted treatment. Many of the people they serve are on Medicaid, and no one is turned away for inability to pay, with sliding scale fees, insurance enrollment help, and scholarship beds for some people with opioid use disorder whose insurance won’t cover inpatient care.
At Liberation House, men set goals on arrival and build an individualized plan, then meet weekly with a counselor and take part in group counseling, family therapy, mental health care, and MAT, with practical attention to employment, stable housing, and daily routines without substances. THRIVE uses a trauma-informed model that centers safety, trust, and each woman’s input into her own care. Outpatient clinics in Stamford and Bridgeport operate six days a week, offering individual and group counseling, family therapy, relapse prevention, recovery coach–led support groups, and MAT with buprenorphine, Vivitrol, or methadone through the only federally licensed methadone clinic in Stamford. They also take a harm reduction approach that supports people regardless of their readiness to stop using, provide free Narcan training, and run youth and family services through local schools and the Greenwich YMCA.
