About LHRC

LHRC (Louisiana Health and Rehab Center) is a nonprofit, CARF-accredited behavioral health provider in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, serving people affected by substance use disorder, mental illness, homelessness, and HIV/AIDS. They treat addiction as a primary, progressive disease and build their care around the 12-Step model, trauma-informed practices, and a faith-rooted belief in each person’s worth. Their programs include Reality House, a residential program for pregnant women and for mothers with children up to age 12, and the Life Care Center, which offers intensive outpatient and standard outpatient treatment.

At the Life Care Center, adults, adolescents, and children with a primary substance use diagnosis, including those with co-occurring disorders, receive psychosocial assessments, individual and group counseling, relapse prevention, family sessions, life skills training, anger management, HIV education, spiritual formation, and care coordination. They also run children’s prevention and Children of Alcoholics programs, and they were one of ten providers nationwide chosen for a SAMHSA pilot that screens adults for fetal alcohol spectrum disorder and adapts treatment accordingly. Many clients come through referrals from detox and inpatient programs, courts, probation and parole, re-entry programs, and child welfare services. Medicaid, private insurance, private pay, and a sliding fee scale are accepted.
