About Lakes Regional Community Center
Lakes Regional Community Center is a nonprofit community mental health and developmental disability agency serving Northeast Texas, including Grayson County, where Sherman is located. They have provided substance use disorder services in Grayson, Fannin, and Cooke counties since 2006, when they took over care after a regional alcohol and drug abuse council closed. Their substance use program offers counseling and treatment for both teens and adults alongside mental health care, and the organization runs intensive and supportive outpatient programs at its Terrell center. Treatment plans are person-centered and built in partnership with individuals, families, and other community providers.
Beyond outpatient counseling, they teach state-recognized DWI Education, Drug Offender Education, and Minor in Possession classes, which can help people meeting court or licensing requirements. They also work with the justice system, providing substance use services through a partnership with Hunt County community supervision and offering parole continuity services in several counties. People with co-occurring mental health conditions can find care coordination, counseling, and psychiatric medication management through the same agency. Services are never denied because someone can’t pay, and uninsured clients may qualify for a sliding fee based on household size and income.
