La Hacienda Treatment Center is a residential addiction treatment program on a 40-acre campus in the Texas Hill Country town of Hunt, and they have been treating alcohol and drug dependency since 1972. Their approach treats chemical dependency as a disease of the body, mind, and spirit, with total abstinence and a spiritual awakening rooted in Alcoholics Anonymous as the foundation of lasting recovery. They treat addiction to alcohol, opioids and prescription painkillers, stimulants, sedatives, hallucinogens, inhalants, synthetic drugs, and over-the-counter medications, along with co-occurring mental health disorders. Care begins with 24-hour medically supervised detox in an on-site Special Care Unit, and patients then move into residential treatment on the same campus. They are in network with most major insurance companies.

The 12 Steps sit at the center of daily programming. Patients receive the Big Book within a day of arriving, work through the first four steps with worksheets and individual guidance, and aim to leave with a completed Fourth Step and a plan to continue with a sponsor. Big Book study is kept separate from therapy groups, and counselors are deliberately matched to each patient’s personality and needs for individual and group counseling. A physician or nurse practitioner sees every patient daily, including weekends, and psychiatric services are available four to five days a week. Other features include a family program, an on-site ropes course, physical exercise, 12-Step meetings on and off campus, and optional spiritual practices such as meditation classes, sunrise meetings, a Christian Focus group, and Sunday worship.
