Kentucky River Community Care is a regional behavioral health provider serving Whitesburg and Letcher County, along with Breathitt, Knott, Lee, Leslie, Owsley, Perry, and Wolfe counties in eastern Kentucky. They offer substance use and mental health care through county outpatient clinics, where licensed or credentialed professionals provide individual, group, and family therapy along with medication management. Their care is trauma-informed, and they refer people to other agencies or to residential treatment when a higher level of care is needed. No one is turned away for inability to pay, fees are discounted based on household size and income, and interpreters and other communication supports are available at no cost.

Much of their addiction work runs through court-connected programs. Their Drug Court services, available by court officer referral, include in-depth assessment, individual and group therapy, recovery education, residential treatment in planned housing when necessary, and aftercare with case management to support the return to everyday life. Their DUI program begins with a clinical interview and the Kentucky Assessment Battery, followed by a 20-hour pre-treatment course and evidence-based outpatient therapy in a group or one-on-one setting. For young people under 21 who have come before the courts because of violence, alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, or impaired driving, an early intervention program focuses on lower-risk decision-making, stronger family relationships, and preventing repeat offenses.
