Kentucky River Community Care is a community behavioral health provider serving Breathitt, Knott, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Owsley, Perry, and Wolfe Counties in eastern Kentucky, including the Mayking area. They treat both substance use and mental health concerns through county-based outpatient clinics, where licensed or credentialed professionals offer individual, group, and family therapy along with medication management. Their care is trauma-informed, and no one is turned away for being unable to pay, with fee discounts tied to household size and income. They also run a 24-hour crisis line and a sexual assault response program, and they provide ASL interpreters and language services at no cost.

Several of their substance use programs are built for people involved with the legal system. Their Drug Court program, available through a court officer referral, combines in-depth assessment, individual and group therapy, education, residential treatment in planned housing when needed, and aftercare with case management, while keeping the court updated on each participant’s progress. The DUI program begins with a clinical interview and the Kentucky Assessment Battery, moves through a 20-hour pre-treatment course, and continues with evidence-based outpatient therapy, with referrals to residential care if a higher level of support is needed. Young people under 21 facing charges related to violence, alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, or impaired driving can join an Early Intervention Program aimed at safer decision-making, stronger family relationships, and preventing repeat offenses.
