Kentucky River Community Care is a community behavioral health agency serving Hyden and the surrounding Leslie County area, along with Breathitt, Knott, Lee, Letcher, Owsley, Perry, and Wolfe Counties in eastern Kentucky. They offer substance use and mental health care through county outpatient clinics, where licensed or credentialed professionals provide individual, group, and family therapy along with medication management. Their care is trauma-informed, and they run a 24-hour crisis line and a sexual assault response program. No one is turned away for inability to pay, and fees are discounted based on household size and income.

For people involved with the courts, they run a Drug Court program that includes in-depth assessment, individual and group therapy, recovery education, case management, aftercare, and access to planned housing when residential treatment is needed. Their DUI program starts with a clinical interview and the Kentucky Assessment Battery, followed by a 20-hour pre-treatment course and evidence-based outpatient therapy, with referrals to residential centers when a higher level of care fits better. Both programs require a referral from a court officer or another DUI program. They also offer an Early Intervention Program for court-involved youth under 21 that focuses on lower-risk choices, stronger family relationships, and preventing repeat offenses, and they provide ASL interpreters, video relay, and language interpretation at no cost.
