About InterCommunity Healthcare
InterCommunity Health Care is a federally qualified health center serving East Hartford, Hartford, and South Windsor, Connecticut, where addiction recovery sits alongside primary care and mental health services. For decades they have focused on helping people with substance use disorders stabilize and build lasting recovery, offering bilingual Spanish and English staff and same-day clinic appointments. Their residential continuum runs from medically monitored detox through short-term intensive treatment, long-term residential care, a working halfway house, and substance-free recovery housing. They also provide care coordination, employment services, and referrals to community resources to support the whole person.
The 12-bed withdrawal management unit admits adults around the clock for alcohol, opioid, and benzodiazepine detox, typically lasting 5 to 10 days, and accepts people regardless of ability to pay. From there, patients can step into an intensive program with 30 hours of weekly group and individual therapy, psychiatric and nursing support, and peer support, or into long-term residential tracks focused on relapse prevention or co-occurring mental health conditions. Coventry House serves pregnant women and parents living with or reuniting with children ages 5 and under, while Clayton House requires residents to hold full-time jobs alongside therapy and self-help groups. For people waiting on a residential bed, a recovery house offers safe, sober housing with 5 to 15 hours of weekly programming.
