About Insight Program
The Insight Program in Charlotte, NC, is an outpatient substance use treatment program built specifically for teens ages 13–17 and young adults ages 18–25, with families drawn in as active participants. Their approach rests on the belief that young people stay sober when sober life is more rewarding than getting high, so they focus on practical life skills, family involvement, and a positive peer group of others in recovery. Care starts with a free substance use evaluation, followed by outpatient or intensive outpatient treatment lasting 6–12 weeks in separate tracks for teens and young adults, along with individual counseling. When a higher level of care is needed, they coordinate a 45-day residential stay through their partner, Step Two Recovery Center, which serves teens in Arizona and young adults in Georgia.
IOP sessions run Monday through Friday, and the week also includes 12-step meetings for young people on Monday and Wednesday nights and sober social activities every Friday and Saturday night. Parents attend a weekly Wednesday support group and can receive family counseling, an important resource for families who feel isolated by a child’s drug or alcohol use. Everyone who completes treatment moves into a 12-week aftercare program at no extra cost, with biweekly check-ins led by their original group counselor, weekly individual sessions focused on relapse prevention, and planning around school, living arrangements, work, and family support. Graduates can keep using individual counseling and the young people’s support groups for up to two years, and the program accepts most commercial health insurance.
