About Independence OCCBHC
Independence OCCBHC is an outpatient treatment program in the Bronx, New York, operated by Samaritan Daytop Village, a nonprofit that has served New Yorkers for more than 65 years through over 80 programs across New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley. They treat substance use disorders alongside co-occurring mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, and trauma. Their integrated care model treats addiction as one part of a larger picture, so housing, employment, and physical health are addressed at the same time. Outpatient clients receive individual and group counseling, and evening hours from 6 to 9 p.m. make it possible to attend treatment while keeping a daytime job.
Treatment starts with an in-person intake, where staff learn about a person’s history and goals before building a personalized plan, whether the person comes by referral, court mandate, or their own choice. A team of addiction counselors, mental health clinicians, medical staff, case managers, vocational counselors, and housing specialists coordinates each client’s care, and vocational rehabilitation, housing assistance, and medical services are built into every program. Within the wider organization, clients can step into residential care based on the therapeutic community model, or receive medication-assisted treatment with methadone or buprenorphine at two licensed opioid treatment clinics in the Bronx. They also offer specialized programs for veterans, treatment for gambling addiction, peer recovery certification training, and support groups that welcome both people in recovery and their families.
