Humboldt Recovery Center Inc is a residential substance use disorder treatment program in Eureka, California, founded in 1972 and serving men and women across the North Coast. They run a structured therapeutic community built on mutual self-help, with the belief that lasting recovery comes from addressing the emotional patterns behind substance use, such as low self-esteem, poor impulse control, anxiety, and isolation. Residential treatment runs about 90 days across seven houses with 57 beds, followed by an optional nine months of continuing care at no cost. They consider nearly anyone willing to commit to a drug-free life, regardless of funding or background, though they do not accept arsonists or sex offenders.

Care centers on cognitive behavioral therapy, delivered through individual, group, and family counseling, along with a personal workbook and skill-building for managing stress and anger. Residents progress through phases, starting with a two-week blackout period and gradually earning more freedom, including the chance to work or attend school while still in residence. The program also offers parenting and perinatal support, life skills and nutrition education, physical fitness, yoga, indigenous practices such as beading and Red Road teachings, and help with employment, GED completion, college enrollment, and medical or dental referrals. Drug testing takes place at least three times a week, families are encouraged to visit and take part, and graduates join an alumni association that provides aftercare counseling and sober social activities.
