About HRI Hospital
HRI Hospital is a freestanding 66-bed psychiatric hospital in Brookline, Massachusetts, offering adults inpatient, partial hospitalization (PHP), and intensive outpatient (IOP) care. Their focus is behavioral health, and substance use is treated alongside mental illness through dual diagnosis programming, including a dedicated inpatient unit and a Dual Diagnosis PHP for adults with co-occurring disorders. Inpatient care offers round-the-clock support for adults in acute crisis. Placement is guided by a free, confidential assessment, admissions staff are available 24/7, and no professional referral is needed for PHP or IOP.
Beyond the general adult and dual diagnosis tracks, HRI runs several specialized PHPs: Stride, a short-term virtual program addressing mental health and substance use for young adults ages 18 to 24; a women’s program centered on stabilization and trauma; Triangle, the Boston area’s first partial program for LGBTQ individuals; and Ascend, which serves Black, Indigenous, and other women of color. Their virtual evening IOP meets three nights a week with CBT and DBT skills groups led by master’s-level therapists, with a case manager assigned to each participant. People can enter this IOP directly or step down to it after finishing a PHP. The NEST IOP is a trauma-informed weekday virtual program for pregnant and postpartum mothers that combines therapy, parenting preparation, and peer support, and staff coordinate with each mother’s medical providers when needed.
