About Hope Center

The Hope Center is a nonprofit in Lexington, Kentucky, that pairs addiction recovery with emergency shelter, mental health care, and housing for people facing substance use disorder, mental illness, and homelessness. Their long-term recovery model is peer-driven and professionally supervised, built on personal responsibility and mutual accountability in a community setting, and it became the model for the statewide Recovery Kentucky program. Care options include a 30-day residential treatment program, long-term residential recovery programs for men and women, and an intensive outpatient program (IOP). They also run a six-month recovery program inside the Fayette County Detention Center for incarcerated men and women.

The men’s and women’s recovery programs, running since 1996 and 2002, follow the Recovery Dynamics curriculum, with the women’s program adding gender-specific features and both offering a safe place to get sober through the Safe Off the Streets emergency shelter. The CARF-accredited residential treatment program at the Don & Cathy Jacobs House operates at ASAM Level 3.1 and uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and the Matrix Model, with individual and group therapy, integrated care for co-occurring mental health conditions, and a team of licensed therapists, a registered nurse, and peer support specialists. For those who need more flexibility, IOP offers group therapy and 12-step educational groups led by behavioral health clinicians, and participants can move into other Hope Center programs afterward. Individualized discharge planning, transitional housing, and drug- and alcohol-free permanent supportive housing help people keep building stability once treatment ends.
