About Home Based Recovery
Home Based Recovery is a Victoria, BC–based virtual intensive outpatient program offering online addiction and mental health treatment to people across Canada, the United States, and beyond. Their approach centers on recovery that happens inside everyday life, so clients can keep working, parenting, or caring for others while practicing new skills at home and in their communities. They support people struggling with alcohol, drugs, cocaine and other stimulants, cannabis, gambling, gaming and screen use, and sex or porn addiction, along with co-occurring concerns like depression and anxiety. Services include substance use assessments, the core online treatment program, virtual counselling, a program for family members, intervention support, and six months of aftercare.
Individuals choose between two 30-day streams built around 30 learning modules. The Guided Path starts with daily 50-minute one-on-one sessions for the first 10 modules and then shifts to sessions every other day, while the self-paced My Path suits people returning to recovery or already in therapy, with a one-on-one session after every fifth module. Each client is paired with either a certified recovery coach or a registered therapist for the full program, and days typically include psychoeducational video content and several self-directed activities covering cravings, triggers, coping skills, and relapse prevention. A licensed addiction therapist screens each person before admission, there is no waitlist, and many team members bring their own lived experience of addiction and mental health challenges to the work.
