About Hogar Crea

Hogar CREA in Juncos, Puerto Rico, is part of Hogar CREA, Inc., a nonprofit network founded in 1968 in Trujillo Alto by Juan J. García, known as “Chejuán.” They run a long-term, drug-free residential program built on the therapeutic community model and treat drug and alcohol addiction in adult and adolescent men and women. Care includes detox, medical services, housing, and meals. People can enter on their own or with family, or through referrals from the courts, the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the Department of the Family, and other public and private agencies.

The program centers on reeducation and character growth in a home-like, extended-family setting, where residents work alongside program graduates and professional staff. Residents receive individual and group counseling and therapy, along with social work, psychological services, family intervention, academic classes, and seminars. Over the years they have expanded to serve people experiencing homelessness, people living with HIV/AIDS, mothers with children up to age four, adolescents in the justice system, and incarcerated adults, including a dedicated program for justice-referred adults in minimum custody. In San Juan, they also offer an intensive outpatient program with a multidisciplinary team, personalized treatment plans, family involvement, and medication-assisted treatment for those who qualify, as well as a Ryan White program that provides HIV case management, transitional housing, and free rapid testing.
