Hina Mauka is a long-running addiction treatment provider in Waipahu, Hawaii, offering residential care for adults with alcohol and substance use disorders. For more than 50 years, they have paired evidence-based practices with steady encouragement, treating recovery as a shared effort between the person and their care team. Treatment is organized into tracks matched to each person’s needs, and supportive services such as case management are part of the picture. People who are pregnant or who inject drugs are given first priority for admission.

Track One serves people whose main struggle is alcohol or drug use without significant mental health or legal complications. It focuses on short-term behavioral goals and coping skills for staying abstinent, while also addressing employment, family and social relationships, and any illegal activity, with referrals for medical, psychiatric, or job support when needed. Participants are encouraged to attend self-help meetings once or twice a week. Track Three is built for adults ordered or directed into treatment by the courts, using a curriculum approved by the Hawaii Judiciary that aims to reduce both substance use and reoffending. A dual diagnosis option within this track brings in a psychiatrist and nursing staff, using cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational enhancement to address symptom warning signs, medication use, and everyday living skills.
