High Plains Mental Health Center is a licensed Community Mental Health Center and Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic with a location in Goodland, Kansas, part of a network serving 20 Northwest Kansas counties since 1964. Their care is built around accessibility and affordability, with outpatient therapy, psychiatric and medication services, children and family services, and 24/7 crisis support, plus telehealth for people who can’t easily travel. Intake assessments are often available the same or next day, and each person works with staff to reach a diagnosis, set recovery goals, and build an individualized treatment plan. They bill private insurance, KanCare (Medicaid), and Medicare, and they offer sliding scale fees so services aren’t denied because someone can’t pay.

Beyond the therapy office, their case managers provide psychosocial rehabilitation for adults and youth in homes, schools, and workplaces, and the IPS Supported Employment program pairs clients with mentors and employers to help them find meaningful work. Adults and teens 15 and older with depression can try Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, a treatment that doesn’t involve medication. Adults with serious mental illness may qualify for subsidized housing in Hays and Colby, while families of youth on the SED waiver can use Homeward Bound respite care through specially trained resource homes. They also provide integrated behavioral health care at HaysMed and other regional hospitals, clinics, and health departments, and they run the Schwaller Crisis Stabilization Center.
