Health Care Resource Centers (HCRC) in Boston, Massachusetts, is an outpatient opioid treatment program within a larger network of clinics across New England. They serve adults with opioid use disorder, including people dependent on heroin, fentanyl, and prescription pain medications, by pairing medication-assisted treatment with ongoing counseling. Their approach views addiction as a chronic condition shaped by biology, environment, and life experience, so care plans address emotional and mental health alongside physical dependence. Patients live at home while attending treatment, and every HCRC center is federally certified, state licensed, and accredited by CARF.

Methadone is the core of their program, given as a supervised liquid dose with frequent early clinic visits and take-home doses for patients who become eligible. Buprenorphine (Suboxone) is available at select locations. Care moves through induction, stabilization, and maintenance phases, with a gradual, provider-guided taper as an option once recovery is well established. Counseling is offered in individual, group, and family formats and draws on cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, contingency management, moral reconation therapy, and peer recovery support, all within a trauma-informed framework. Case managers help patients find housing, transportation, benefits, employment, and healthcare resources, and with patient consent they can verify treatment for probation, parole, or family court. Patients also receive harm reduction education, including naloxone use and overdose prevention.
