About Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation

Hazelden Betty Ford’s Newberg center, once known as Springbrook, is a residential and outpatient treatment campus for adults in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, roughly 45 minutes southwest of Portland. They treat substance use disorders alongside co-occurring mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, and trauma, addressing both at the same time rather than separately. Care can begin with medically supervised detox and stabilization when an assessment calls for it, then continue in residential treatment, day treatment (partial hospitalization), or intensive outpatient programming offered in person or virtually. Length of stay depends on each person’s clinical progress rather than a fixed number of days.

In residential care, patients live in residence halls with peers who share similar experiences, attend daily lectures and workshops on handling stress, triggers, and cravings, and take part in process groups and private sessions with both an addiction counselor and a mental health therapist. Clinical approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, contingency management, Twelve Step facilitation, and medication-assisted treatment, with targeted care for opioid use disorder. The Newberg campus also offers gender-specific tracks, a program for professionals, and animal-assisted programming that supports emotional regulation. Families can join education and support services, including a children’s program, many of which are free and virtual, and patients leave with a continuing care plan that may include recovery coaching, alumni connections, and sober living referrals.
