About Hartford Dispensary

Hartford Dispensary in Willimantic, Connecticut, is part of Root Center for Advanced Recovery, a behavioral health organization with more than 50 years in addiction care that serves over 5,500 patients across the state each day. They treat substance use and mental health disorders together, taking a whole-person, evidence-based approach that starts with each patient’s current situation. Their care is built around medication-assisted treatment for opioid and alcohol use, and their continuum also includes partial hospitalization, adult day treatment, and intensive outpatient programs. The organization has also recently opened its first residential treatment facility.

For opioid use disorder, they offer methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone to adults and teens, paired with counseling and behavioral therapy. Their partial hospitalization and adult day treatment programs run four hours a day, five days a week, usually for one to two weeks before patients step down to IOP, with morning and evening IOP sessions available. These programs are offered both in person and virtually. Small groups of 6 to 12 people work on relapse prevention, trauma, mindfulness, emotion management, communication, and life skills, with additional groups for veterans, LGBTQ individuals, abuse survivors, and gender-specific concerns. Individual therapy, family therapy, and psychiatric medication management are available as needed, and a weekly problem gambling group addresses how gambling can feed into substance use.
