About Greenhope Services for Women Inc
Greenhope Services for Women is a residential substance use treatment program for adult women in East Harlem, licensed by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) and part of Acacia Network since 2016. They began in 1975, when a former convent became a treatment program for women leaving incarceration. Today they serve women referred by criminal, family, and mental health courts, parole and probation, and the Administration for Children’s Services, as well as women who reach out on their own. Their gender-responsive, trauma-informed, and client-centered approach helps women work through the overlap of addiction, mental health, legal involvement, and trauma while building toward abstinence. Stays typically last 6 to 12 months, and they accept most insurance, including Medicaid and Medicaid-pending coverage.
Care centers on individual and group counseling with experienced clinical staff. Mental health services are available on-site or through referral, and residents are connected with primary care doctors and specialists, including providers of medication-assisted treatment. A mother-child program serves women who are pregnant, parenting a child up to age 5, or working to reunify with their children, offering on-site childcare, parenting classes, and links to neighborhood schools and children’s organizations. Women can also get help with education, career and vocational goals, and benefits enrollment, along with referrals to aftercare as they prepare to leave the program.
