Great Lakes Recovery Centers is a nonprofit, CARF-accredited behavioral health organization with an outpatient clinic in Escanaba, Michigan, part of a network of clinics, residential programs, and recovery homes across the Upper Peninsula. They view substance use disorder as a disease that touches individuals, families, and communities, and they recognize that people can recover in many different ways. Their care covers addiction, mental health concerns, and co-occurring disorders for adults, adolescents, and children. Levels of care include outpatient counseling, adult and adolescent residential treatment, medication-assisted treatment through physician-led medical programs, and certified men’s and women’s recovery housing, with referrals to detox when needed.

Every client starts with a phone call to their Access Center, followed by a screening and assessment to match them with the right program. Outpatient care blends individual and group therapy with clinically supervised AA- and NA-based meetings for enrolled clients, plus Compass Care coordination that helps with transportation, MDHHS applications, food assistance, insurance questions, and connections to other healthcare providers, available in person, by phone, or through telehealth. Peer recovery coaching, women and family case management in Marquette and Chippewa Counties, and readjustment counseling and housing support for veterans add further layers of support. Young people can work with clinicians trained in childhood and intergenerational trauma, and their adolescent residential program pairs daily therapy with on-site schooling, while adult residential clients also have access to spiritual care.
