Georgia Strait Women’s Clinic is a women-only residential treatment center in Powell River, on BC’s Sunshine Coast, serving women from across Canada who are struggling with alcohol or drug dependence, trauma, PTSD, depression, or anxiety. They see problem drinking and drug use as a symptom of deeper issues, and their program is geared toward motivated, high-functioning women who want to address what lies underneath. Care starts with on-site medical withdrawal management with round-the-clock nursing, so clients don’t need to be sober before arriving, and continues into a residential program with a 30-day minimum that many clients extend by weeks or months. Rather than following a 12-step model, they build care around four areas of health: physical, psychological, social, and spiritual.

Each treatment plan is shaped by medical and psychiatric assessments, with medication management and ongoing monitoring to address co-occurring mental health conditions. Counsellors draw on Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, while a kinesiologist, personal trainer, occupational therapist, and massage therapists support physical recovery. A dedicated occupational trauma track serves women first responders, military members, and veterans, and family services help loved ones prepare for life after treatment, with spiritual activities kept entirely optional. After discharge, alumni can use 24-hour support, recovery coaching, virtual support meetings, and free refresher stays at no additional cost, and returning for more care after a relapse is treated as a normal part of recovery.
