About Georgetown County
Georgetown County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission (GCADAC) is the county’s designated substance use authority in Georgetown, South Carolina, offering prevention, intervention, and outpatient treatment for adults and youth. Established under state law in 1973 and operating as a not-for-profit, they aim to make care affordable and accessible to the general public and to higher-risk groups in the community. Their approach centers on treating every client with dignity, respecting each person’s right to make their own choices, and keeping all services strictly confidential and free of judgment. Care options include standard outpatient counseling, intensive outpatient treatment, and ongoing aftercare.
Treatment begins with an assessment, after which the client and a counselor build a service plan together. Level I outpatient counseling runs from two to eight hours a week in group, individual, or family sessions and covers the addiction process, relationships, stress, coping skills, relapse prevention, and community support. The intensive outpatient program meets three times weekly for three-hour group sessions focused on recovery and relapse prevention planning, and many participants then step down to a once-weekly aftercare group. GCADAC also partners with local providers to offer medication-assisted treatment, hands out naloxone kits with fentanyl test strips, runs the state ADSAP intervention program, provides drug testing, and has Substance Abuse Professionals who evaluate employees after Department of Transportation drug and alcohol violations.
