About Gateway Foundation

Gateway Foundation, now operating under the name Alpharus Health, is a Chicago-based provider of addiction and mental health treatment with nearly six decades of experience. They treat substance use disorders involving opioids (including fentanyl), stimulants, marijuana, benzodiazepines, and hallucinogens, as well as alcohol use disorder, co-occurring mental health conditions, and gambling addiction. Their care is organized across residential withdrawal management (detox), residential treatment, outpatient programming that lets people live at home, and confidential virtual sessions with a clinician. They also run treatment programs inside correctional settings to help people in custody prepare for life after release.

Detox includes round-the-clock medical monitoring for opioid and alcohol withdrawal, with medications to ease discomfort and therapy to help manage lingering anxiety, restlessness, and sleep problems. Their medication-assisted recovery program pairs counseling with FDA-approved options such as buprenorphine (Suboxone) and naltrexone (Vivitrol). They don’t prescribe methadone themselves, but patients already on it may be able to continue through coordination with their existing provider. Beyond medication, therapy looks at how trauma, mental health, and behavior patterns feed into substance use, and DUI services, specialty programs, support groups, and an alumni network extend support, while most major insurance plans and financial assistance options help make care more accessible.
