About Flushing Hospital and Medical Center
Flushing Hospital Medical Center is a general hospital in Flushing, Queens, that has served the borough since 1884, and their Psychiatry Department includes a Division of Addiction Services for people struggling with alcohol and drug dependency. They provide comprehensive assessments followed by two state-licensed levels of care: a 30-bed inpatient Chemical Dependence Unit for medically supervised detox and an outpatient rehabilitation program called Reflections. The detox unit admits patients around the clock, and most people stay three to seven days while they withdraw safely.
Care on the detox unit comes from a team of nurses, physician assistants, psychiatric consultants, social workers, arts therapists, and credentialed addiction counselors, with an emphasis on culturally sensitive treatment for the diverse Queens community. The Reflections program takes a holistic approach that looks at how addiction affects both the person and their family, with group work on motivation, relapse prevention, and stress management. Participants also learn calming techniques like meditation and relaxation exercises and are encouraged to connect with 12-step and other sober support. Day and evening sessions are available, new patients complete a phone screening and an in-person evaluation before starting, and the program accepts several insurance plans, Medicare, and Medicaid, with a sliding scale for those paying out of pocket.
