About First Step Recovery
First Step Recovery is a nonprofit outpatient addiction treatment program in Fargo, North Dakota, run by The Village Family Service Center. They treat drug and alcohol use disorders in adults and adolescents, including veterans, students, professionals, and people referred by employers or the courts. Their view is that substance use disorder is a manageable disease that affects the whole family. Care ranges from in-person chemical dependency evaluations, available as walk-ins Monday through Thursday mornings, to a partial hospital program, adult and adolescent intensive outpatient programs, low-intensity outpatient treatment, and continuing care.
The partial hospital program runs 20 hours a week on weekday mornings and combines group, individual, and family therapy with educational sessions. The 9-hour-per-week adult IOP offers day and evening groups, with virtual day groups for people outside the Fargo area. Teens ages 14 to 17 attend an after-school IOP three days a week, followed by a continuing care group, while adults who have finished primary treatment anywhere can join a weekly relapse prevention group. Licensed addiction counselors work alongside a registered nurse and The Village’s mental health staff in a trauma-informed, veteran-friendly setting, and family members can attend a free weekly family program. They also offer a 16-hour Prime for Life DUI seminar and accept the ND Substance Use Disorder Voucher, TriCare/TriWest for PHP and IOP, and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
